Ever since the debut of Despicable Me in 2010, the franchise has only grown in popularity. Fans have expectantly been waiting for the fourth movie in the franchise after Despicable Me 3 came out in 2017.
There are three Despicable Me movies and two spin off films that have been released: Minions (2015) and Minions: The Rise of Gru (2022). Despicable Me 4 is set to be released on July 3, 2024. The movie will be directed by Chris Renaud and Patrick Delage, who were involved in the production of The Lorax and Sing 2 respectively.
The plot of the new movie centers around Gru’s life as a dad and husband. His wife Lucy and daughters Margo, Edith, and Agnes will be returning with a new baby named Gru jr.
As the family settles into their life in the suburbs a new villain named Maxime Le Mal escapes from prison and the family is forced to flee. Former Anti-Villain League director, Silas Ramsbottom, will also be featured in the movie.
Villains Maxime Le Mal and Valentina
Despicable Me 4 will revolve around the new villain Maxime Le Mal as well as Gru’s struggles with his son as he adjusts to life with his family. Several new celebrities will be joining the Despicable Me cast including Will Farell as Maxime and Sofia Vergara as Valentina. Steve Carell will be returning to voice Gru in the new movie.
Junior at Liberty, Diego Sanchez, was interviewed about the upcoming release of Despicable Me 4. Diego explained, “I plan to watch the new film, even though it might lack what I enjoyed in the previous films.” He mentioned, “The new Despicable Me film looks cute, however I feel that it will lack the charm of the previous films.” Diego hopes that the movie will still have the humor that was in the earlier movies.
