On August 21, 2017, there was an eclipse that was talked about. The most recent solar eclipse took place here in Nevada on April 8, 2024. The eclipse happened around noon and people were able to witness this extraordinary sight.
Many students and teachers were intrigued with this topic and had different perspectives on how they felt about this eclipse. A solar eclipse happens when the moon comes in between the sun and earth.

When wearing eclipse glasses, you are able to look up and see the eclipse. From Nevada, the eclipse wasn’t a total eclipse meaning the sun was still slightly visible making it an annular solar eclipse. Total eclipses aren’t very common. They happen once around every 18 months but are usually over remote parts of the ocean. When witnessed, the sky almost fully goes dark.
Although we all saw the same thing in the sky, everyone expected something a little different. A teacher here at Liberty, Mr. Brennan, had said it “was exactly how I expected it to be for Nevada.” While others thought it was going to go pitch dark. One student even mentioned how he heard the solar eclipse was going to cause portals to open up and people were going to gain superpowers.
People with relatives out of state that were able to see it also had different reactions to the solar eclipse as well. A freshman here had said his grandma was “flabbergasted” and even sent videos of the eclipse. Another teacher had said, “all of my family were in the path of the solar eclipse and were able to see the full effect of pitch black darkness.” Being able to see the solar eclipse from different perspectives can be so fascinating the way you can have multiple views even when you are not there.
Being able to experience an eclipse is a rare sight on its own. The sun or moon has to move in such a way that it would perfectly line up with one another to create the beautiful scene. An eclipse also serves as an opportunity for scientists to be able to study the it and its effect on the atmosphere. The recent solar eclipse was an opportunity to bring communities together to be able to view the wonder and beauty of the universe.
