There are certain surprises some people don’t expect. Surprises can come from anywhere, but some find their way from peculiar ideas. That surprise certainly found its way here at Liberty High School, and her name is Destiny Shockley. She is a junior at LHS, and she is definitely a star in a dark place! Some people might not know that she has a YouTube channel as well. With over 1000 subscribers! That’s a pretty magnificent achievement! Let’s get into more details on what makes Destiny Shockley, Destiny!

Destiny is a full time student here at Liberty High School and is also a “wannabe filmmaker.” She does YouTube and has over 1000 subscribers! Hitting 1000 subscribers is a tremendous milestone, especially when you’re a full time student. YouTube is a special skill that only a select few can do. Destiny is also in love with films. She expresses that she loves analyzing films and dissecting different parts, kind of like a film critic. Destiny says that, “Yes! I love analysing and dissecting films and TV shows and I hope I can make more commentary videos about details that I notice when watching my favorite movies.” But we all know some movie lovers have a certain preference when it comes to movies. My favorite films are Into the Spider-Verse, Across the Spider-Verse, Scott Pilgrim, and Megamind.” She loves these specific films because they focus on the same themes, such as good vs. evil, perseverance, and staying strong even when going through impossible circumstances. Seeing students love film and dissect it is rare nowadays, especially since some people believe movies are “dying.” But it’s nice to see kids actually enjoying films, and even dissecting them.
But one specific genre of film that Destiny really loves are superhero films. Superhero films are highly rated among the film industry, and can make a huge amount of revenue. Even niche superhero films can make a bunch of revenue. But Spider-Man has had a lot of traction lately. With new comics, movies, games and merch coming out, who knows how much more Marvel can make off of the character. Destiny expresses how much she loves a certain variant of Spider Man.

“My favorite variant is Miles Morales. He wears Jordan’s, takes AP classes and is an artist. I love seeing Black representation especially when it comes to main characters.” With Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse coming out summer 2027, even more kids will be inspired by a Afro-Latino Spider-Man. Besides Destiny’s favorite superhero, she will be a senior next year and has some advice. “For juniors, I would recommend having a strong support system especially if you’re taking a ton of AP classes like I did. Know your strengths and use them to your advantage. For freshmen, join clubs. I made more friends by joining Ace Dance! Also take honors classes even if you don’t think you’ll be able to keep up.” With all that being said, Destiny is a star-studded student who is also an undercover YouTuber! Let’s see what she has in store for senior year!
