Many have stated that the Boston Red Sox have been one of the worst teams in baseball so far this year, with a record of 9-15, placing them last in their division. There are many reasons for this outcome, such as their inconsistent hitting, which puts them in the middle of the pack as 14th place among all teams, and a lack of run production, which has put them in 22nd place for runs scored.
Pitching has been a great concern for them, according to CCSD students. The Red Sox have a team ERA (Earned Run Average) of 4.55, which is ranked 25th out of the 30 MLB teams. Ace pitcher, Garrett Grochet, has pitched “terribly,” according to some. With him having the league’s highest ERA at 7.88, this has been a major part of the Red Sox’s season so far.
Baseball Coach, Mr.Vay – “He’s struggling. That last outing against the Twins was pretty atrocious. So, I think he’s our workhorse, so he’s gonna have to get back up there and, you know, we’re gonna live or die by him. I think he’ll be all right.”
The Boston Red Sox finished third in the AL East 2025, with a 89–73 record, while the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees tied for first at 94–68. Boston still made the playoffs despite finishing third in the division. Many people are hoping that the Red Sox repeat their success from 2025.
Freshman, Deklan Monohan-Kile – “Last year, I felt like they played as a team, and this year I feel like they’re playing a little selfish.”
The Boston Red Sox, early in the season, haven’t lived up to expectations with the pitching struggles, inconsistent hitting, and “weak” run production. With players like Grochet, having bad starts at the beginning of the year, and rising players like Roman Anthony not making the impact everyone thought he would have. With plenty of time left in the season, many still hope the Red Sox can get back on track, as they were in the 2025 season.
