Dune: Part 3, dubbed Dune Messiah, is the next and final part in the Dune trilogy, finally stamping the conclusion in Paul Atredis’ story. The film is set to release on December 18, 2026 and the runtime is yet to be revealed. Fun fact, the film comes out the same day as another highly anticipated film, Avengers: Doomsday. The Dune Part 3 trailer has surpassed 30 million views on YouTube, which is a significant achievement. This trailer was released a day before Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s trailer, which was a trailer rivalry for the ages. The trailer first begins with Paul Atredis and his lost lover, Chani, deciding what to name their child in a calm setting. Despite Paul betraying Chani in Part 2, the filmmakers still showed this scene, which will raise questions for Part 3. The next parts in the trailer show Paul’s reign as the leader of the Freman, fulfilling the Prophecy.

The Freman are a mysterious group of fighters stored on the planet known as Arakis, a landmine of sand and creatures known as sandworms. The Freman seek spice, a valuable resource on Arakis. Spice enhances all human life and resources, increases chances of interstellar travel, and changes the Freman’s eyes to blue. Paul was once a boy, part of one the richest families in the world, to now a leader and a prophet to one of the most noble fighters in the universe. In the next scenes, we still follow Paul and his reign as leader of the Freman, waging war on the universe. Shots show dead and fermented bodies, likely on a different planet.

Later shots again show Paul but this time, he is aged up a bit, even bald! In the same shot, Paul is reciting a war chant with his Freman comrades and sister, Alia Atredis, who was shown in Part 2. She will be played by Anya-Tayler Joy and is described as a strong fighter. After later scenes show Paul’s reign and terror on the universe, the character known as Scytale is officially revealed. In the book’s lore, Scytale is a Tleilaxu Face Dancer, also known as a shapeshifter. He later becomes a Tleilaxu Master who is an opposing force to Paul Atredis. He can shapeshift into anyone as he wills. Scytale can even change his own sex if he needs to. Scytale is played by Robert Pattinson, previously known for his work for The Batman (2022), Mickey 17, and Twilight. He will also be appearing in ‘The Odyssey’ this summer, and a romance film with Zendaya later this year. Besides Robert Pattinson, the trailer hints at Arakis possibly getting rainfall in the film. Arakis is known for its dry land and sand dunes, and fans are surprised to see such a wonder. It’s hard to tell what really happens and how the planet Arakis gets that rain, but it will be revealed later this year. One more mysterious shot hints at Duncan Idaho’s return. Played by Jason Momoa, Duncan Idaho was a key character in Part 1, and served as Paul’s mentor. In later scenes, Duncan dies from a rifle wound. He will “return” but this time as a clone. Finally, the final scenes show Paul and his ultimate army, ready to bring on hysteria and mass destruction. In the end, Paul says “I am not afraid to die, but I must not die, yet.” This could possibly be hinting at Paul’s death, but it’s not very likely. With the final part of the Dune trilogy locked and loaded, the anticipation is real and the hype is over 9000. Cinema fans across the world will unite to watch the conclusion to possibly the best trilogy in film history.
