Do you know Chai Willett? Let’s take a sneak peak at who she is as a person and a student here at Liberty High School.
¨Hello! I am Chayil Willette, I am a Junior and have a huge passion for all arts and Jesus! I’m originally from Indiana, and moved to Vegas in 2019! A couple of my favorite things include: Dance, Concerts, Music, Fashion, and God!”

One thing Chayil mentioned about herself was how she favortizes Dancing. She started dancing when she was 3 years old and gradually progressed into where she is today. Through different genres, Chayil has truly found herself and who she is in the way she dances. ¨I’ve always been a Dancer since the age of 3, starting off with Jazz and Tap, later finding true love in Majorette and Hip Hop. Dance has been one of my greatest routes I have taken. It’s been an escape for me when I felt I had nothing left.¨
Chayil has come a long way with her dancing and her connection to it. Even inside of school she’s a Dancer. Not for the Dance team, but a dance club called ACE. This year, Chayil was the vice president of this club.

“I love this club, so, so much. I make and teach choreo, as well as talk about it. I joined Sophomore year when I heard about it on Liberty’s morning announcements! As soon as I heard Hip-Hop I looked up from my geometry homework and locked in to what was being said!”
ACE has definitely been a big part of her involvement in the school and her life in general the past two years.
When it comes to creating choreography for some Dancers, have you ever wondered how they do it? How they create each move to perfectly match the lyrics, the rhythm, and the beat to the song. What could that process look like? Well, for Willette, she says she takes her time to listen to the music she wants to use. When she creates a choreo, she sits alone with her music in silence listening to everything in the song itself. “From the hit hats to the lyrics.” she described it.
Though Dance is such a big part of her life, she also has such a positive background to the type of person she is.
“My biggest goal for the future would be to make a great living, and give my mother back everything she gave to us. I also want to be remembered as a positive who had a great influence on someone! Being raised by a single mother would be what drives me to the goal the most.”
Chayil has definitely had an impact on people’s lives including some of her friends. She has become that positive person and influence on people around school, her friends, and even Dancers.
Her friend, Jay Verona, a Senior here at Liberty, who is also the president of the ACE dance club, says “Some of my favorite things about her are that, when things need to be serious, she’ll lock in. Yet at the same time she’s able to make jokes and laugh. I love how she can make a joke for the perfect circumstance, and I love how she is able to be blunt to her dancers while also not being mean about it.”
Her other friend, Lynnette Maddox-Young says “I love how she is positive. She can turn a bad situation into a good one.” Which is true. A mood could be off, or down, but around Chayil, a smile or a laugh would definitely happen. She brightens up a room with her energy.

Lynnette even described her as, “She is like a blooming flower in the Spring, but instead of cold weather, she’s blooming in the warm weather when the sun is out.”

One thing Willette really loves is music, and especially concerts. She listens to everything she says.
“From K-Pop to Country music.”
Chayil has a very wide variety in her music taste and doesn’t discriminate against any. Through the years she grew to love Wave To Earth the most. She says they are her favorite artists. When their music comes on or someone wants to talk about them, she is ALL for it. In fact, she’s met them. She’s met lots of Artist and Influencers that have also come with so many photographs and autographs.

In the past 2 years, Willette has been to over 30 shows. She’s seen almost every artist she listens to and her journey still continues. Overall though, her favorite concert she attended was for Tyler The Creator. “It was incredible, from the mosh pit to the vibes. Ten out of Ten would definitely recommend.”
Her first ever concert was a birthday present for her 14th birthday. She had previously mentioned the concert to her mom and when she had come home from school, her mom surprised her with tickets! The tickets were to see a K-Pop group called Twice. They are a South Korean girl group that was formed by JYP Entertainment. Chayil didn’t know much of their music at the time but she definitely knew she wanted to go to this concert and the date matched up to a coincidence.
During this concert, is where she learned she doesn’t necessarily need to know the artist or their music fully to have a good time, enjoy the environment, or make the moment incredible.
