Recently, there was an event held at the Liberty High School theater called “Film Fest” where high schools all across CCSD gathered together to have their students turn in short films and get them critiqued by judges to see who is the most talented. The films had a variety of themes and genres that consisted from action, comedy, horror, and even drama, displaying multiple ways students can showcase their creativity and talent.

The students who had participated in this event were very excited about it and were eager for the event to partake. Liberty Junior Cain Thompson explained this in depth while going into more detail about what Film Fest is and the art and beauty of it. “The Film Fest is where all the High Schools in Las Vegas under the CCSD banner are told to have students submit short films from I think 2 minutes to 7 minutes in length. A panel of judges give out each award and they all come to the Liberty High School to watch all the movies and be given said awards.” Students gather to compare and contrast their short films and get them judged by officials to see what they did well on and what they can improve, making a healthy and productive environment.

The Film Fest was not easy to put together and took a lot of time, support, funding, and sacrificing so the students are able to enjoy their creations being critiqued and watch their peers. Cristine Stephens, who is a video production teacher and the film fest organizer, went into detail saying how she had to organize and prepare everything so the event goes as planned. “I organized and hosted the event, coordinated submissions, worked with judges, and organized student volunteers to bring everything together.” Cristine was willing to work as hard as possible and step up in order for the kids and everyone to have the best experience at this event possible.
Overall, it is clear that Film Fest was worth all the hard work and effort that was put into it and the students really enjoyed getting their films critiqued and comparing and contrasting with their peers.
