A Glimpse Into Thanksgiving By: Whitney Olson and Delaney Fulton
Thanksgiving is a holiday filled with traditions, family time, and yummy dishes. To learn more about how students celebrate, we interviewed some Liberty students on how they participate in this holiday. Each student has their own unique way of celebrating, but they all agree that Thanksgiving is about being with the people they love most.
The History of Traditional Thanksgiving Foods
For Ellie Prosser, Thanksgiving means adventure. Every year, her whole family celebrates by going camping, a tradition they’ve kept for 13 years. Ellie says her favorite part is,”Everyone being together and doing fun activities like four-wheeling.” To her, family is the most important thing because “they are always there for me.” Ellie says “Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays and I don’t dislike anything about it.” Her family usually makes a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, and she says she is simply thankful for her family.
Ella Cole spends her Thanksgiving in more of a relaxed way. Ella usually plays games with her family and enjoys doing activities together. She explains, “It’s just something we’ve always done since forever.” Ella said the most important people in her life are her sister and the rest of her family because she loves them so much. She thinks Thanksgiving is fun because it brings everyone she loves into one place. While her family makes the traditional meal, she wishes,”Items with less meat, since I don’t eat it.”
Lastly, Siena Urso also celebrates Thanksgiving with the classic holiday foods. She enjoys spending time with her close family and feels thankful for the people around her. When it comes to her favorite holidays, she says,”No, for me, Christmas and Halloween are better.” Although, she still thinks Thanksgiving is a good holiday for spending time with family and enjoying great food. She wishes her family made, “The good mash potatoes”. Overall, she doesn’t dislike anything about the day.
Although each student celebrates differently, they all agree on one thing, Thanksgiving is a time to appreciate family, enjoy traditions, and be thankful for the people who matter most to them.
