The Liberty Varsity Girls Basketball team is gearing up for another exciting season. With a heavy senior roster, the team is focused on making new memories and bringing home a championship.
“We just talk to each other every time, like after a game. In our groupchat, we are always just texting each other. We are really close so we talk a lot even outside of school, we have a strong culture,” says Neviah Nick, point guard and number 3.

Neviah, a junior on the team, chose her number to honor Paris Strawther, a former player, and to follow in her family’s footsteps. “Number three, after Paris Strawther, she used to go here. My family has been number 3, so I gotta follow.”
Reese Chestnut, shooting guard and number 5, has her own reasons for choosing her number. “My dad’s high school and middle school number was number 5, it’s my sisters as well.”

The team’s goals are to: win the championship. “It’s always to win the championship, but this is a really special year because we have a lot of seniors in this group,” says Coach Lorenzo Jarvis.
The team is focused on hard work and commitment. “We come in everyday, it’s a marathon not a sprint. We try to get better everyday. We approach every practice as one step toward the championship so every practice, every game is preparing for the championship,” Coach Jarvis adds.
For these girls, teamwork is everything. “To me it’s being committed to each other, you have to be a family, you have to be locked in. It can’t be about you, it has to be about the team, the team over everything,”

As they take to the court, they’re ready to put in the work and make this season one to remember. “My team has good energy, good hustle, and we are still working and playing hard. As long as we were working hard then it’s like we won,” says Neviah.
With their strong team chemistry and determination, the Liberty Varsity Girls Basketball team is ready to take on the competition and make their mark. “The most important thing. If you don’t have chemistry you have nothing because then you just have individuals,” says Coach Jarvis.
