Did you go see the one act we recently had? Well if you did not go the one-acts that were being shown were Butterfly directed by Angelina Wigginton, Good Cop Bad Cop directed by Kurea Mori, Actor Games directed by Taylor Solow & Joseph Shoen, and 10 Ways to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse directed by Cassien Kirkham & Matthew Zauss.
Are you new to theater and don’t know what one act is? They are student-directed shows that are around 30-40 minutes each. These are opportunities for students in our school to prove themselves and take the responsibility of directing a show.
Is it scary to be in a one-act and was it stressful at the shows or the rehearsal? Well, senior Jona Hanson thinks “ The first nights of bot

h shows, 10 Ways to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse and The Actor Games were a little shaky since we didn’t have much time to perform but they went well!! The excitement from both the cast and the cast and the audience made for some great performing energy on stage.” Was it stressful at all? Well of course it was but they did an amazing job. We can all imagine being in a show and doing it for three to four nights straight. Jona says “ It was very stressful especially because of the limited time we had to prepare the whole show but we pulled it all together pretty well in the end”.
What is better and what do our actors prefer? One act or show? Anthony Fusco stated, “ I like one act because it’s fun to play with your script a little bit and it’s how I joined the theatre in my freshman year”. While Jona says “I would rather do a full show, mostly because we usually have more time to rehearse and memorize so the whole process is less stressful”.
It takes a lot to do a show but really how long did they work on this? Junior student Anthony Fusco states “ Auditions were held in early December so about a month”. Reminder these are all student-directed. How did they do? Anthony Fusco says “ Really well actually! Joseph Shoen and Taylor Solow directed our show this year and Joseph directed one of ours last year so I’ve worked with him before. They both helped our cast pick up the show very quickly”. Now how hard is it really to dir

ect the shows? Jona says “Yes you have to figure out ALL the blocking, lighting, and sound effects, then relay that to your co-directors, actors, and technicians. You have to keep everything running smoothly and organize how rehearsals will be spent. It is a lot of work”.
One act seems to have a lot of responsibilities. I hope to see our actors do more in the future! Anthony says he will be doing more and says “ This is my third time doing one act, I’ve never missed them”! Jona also says he will be doing more and said: “I loved being in a show that is so focused on comedy and loved being able to be goofy”!
