For years now the NBA has hosted its annual all star weekend events to try and give their fans something to look forward to in the middle of the 82 game season. This year all star weekend will be starting on February 14th and going all the way to February 16th. The all star weekend is where the NBA’s best players and famous celebrities participate in a number of events such as, the all star game, the dunk contest, the three point contest, the celebrity basketball game, and so much more. Some people love that they can see the NBA’s finest compete in these contests, but some fans despise the idea of having all star weekend at all in the middle of the season. Which raises the question of, is all star weekend overhyped or slept on?

Manzilli Harris, a Liberty high junior and a ride or die Lakers fan was asked, “ Do you think all star weekend is needed in the NBA?” he stated “ I mean the all star weekend isn’t even exciting any more. It’s just the same thing year after year with the same people too. It’s just a way to try and make the season different.” People have had mixed feelings about this question like Manzillie’s friend Kevin Cakshiri, another Liberty high school junior he stated “ I like all star weekend. I watch it every year, but not even going to lie to you. I really want them to change it a little. Like the all star game hasn’t been competitive since 2016, a matter of fact none of it has been the same since 2016.” Provided by Chase Center.com
After that the two friends were asked if they approve of the all star game changing this year Manzille stated “ I think this will be a good change of pace, and I hope they get it right. Because they tried to make changes to all star weekend before and failed miserably.” Kevin stated “I don’t think they really need to change it that much, I just think the need to have something on the line to make the players actually compete like money or something.”
The final question both of them were ask was if they were going to watch all the events that are going to happen, both of them only had one word to say “Yes.”
