Happy New Year ! : The Rewind of 2026 Being The New 2016

As a new year approaches, members of the current generation begin to experience a high rise in nostalgia. After the Covid-19 virus teens have been searching for a way to revive the electric, lively vibration of life pre-covid. With the continuous search of this atmosphere, teenagers began to enforce romanization of the year 2016. With bright colors, darker filters, and pop-like music, people have started to reminisce about the vibrant lifestyle of 2016.
Liberty High School Senior, Ailine Lolesio, states how “people are depressed with the current political state of the world so they want the happiness that 2016 brought them because we were all kids in 2016 so it was a fun time” (Ailine Lolesio).
During a time period where the major high school students were experiencing early childhood, attempting to relive that moment provides them with a bittersweet memory, attempting to fulfill their nostalgia before entering adulthood. With the events regarding our current environment,teenagers are more likely to feel overwhelmed with their lifestyle, causing them to reminisce about their past childhood with 2016 as a coping strategy.
While the majority of teenagers are dedicated towards bringing back to the lively environment of 2016 to 2026, there have been various trend evolutions that others may prefer to leave in 2016 itself.
Liberty High School Junior, Kaela Aquino, states how she is glad that “we don’t do skinny jeans no more, we do baggy jeans” (Kaela Aquino).
As the decades evolved after 2016, so have fashion and trends involving the transitions from full-beat glam to clean girl makeup, skinny jeans to baggy jeans, etc. Regarding these transitions, it shows how much teenagers have adapted their style, due to the change within modern fashion standards. Since 2016 fashion was inspired off of early 2010s fashion, it involves various types of unique pieces and patterns of clothing that would not be considered in today’s current fashion. With the evolution of fashion within the past 10 years, teenagers have been able to find styles and patterns that truly define themselves and their modern standards.
Despite certain trends that have grown throughout time, the continuous enforcement of 2016 provides a healthy way for teenagers to retrieve the lively, spirited lifestyle that they have been searching for throughout the decades.
