The Devastating Starbucks Shutdowns
Written by: Brielle Ferns & Delaney Fulton
There have been many Starbucks’ shut down in areas including California, Massachusetts, New York and Pennsylvania while addressing the possibility of more closures in other areas. People that enjoy Starbucks on a daily basis may not be very happy about this shutdown. With a total of about 400 stores between the US and Canada being closed, just in Las Vegas, eight Starbucks locations have been targeted for shut down.

The reason for all the shut downs are stores that were considered to be underperforming their duties. Starbucks wishes to also improve on their financial production, change the habits of their purchasers and focus on areas that make more profit. This is also leading them to shut down because of a company-wide restructuring plan to cut costs and refocus on its most profitable locations. Most stores are closing because they don’t have the “Physical” environment their customers and partners expect as a part of the company’s goal to create a warmer, more welcoming environment.
Starbuck’s has been experiencing a fair amount of profit loss. With all of the shut downs, it is not exactly helping with the money loss but with changes coming to establishments, they’re expected to make it all back, plus more.

We interviewed Liberty students on how they feel about the Starbucks shutdown. We asked them what makes you feel the way you do about Starbucks closing down, Ella Cole stated, “I feel somewhat like it doesn’t matter much to me that all of the shut downs are happening because every time I have gotten something from Starbucks, it has made me throw up.” This is just one of many interviews taken and while, some people do care for sure, there seems to be on the side were they do not.
Starbucks is a very important thing to some people. It is also a very diverse topic when it comes to opinions. While some people don’t care, there are others that really enjoy it are somewhat upset about it. Hopefully Starbucks will come back better than ever!
