To some students, the band, Electric Mayhem, may just be a musical group that they hear every so often at lunch, but to the group itself, it isn’t just that. It’s something fun to do and something that brings joy into their school lives. The group consists of about six members, including Naomi Grey, the main vocalist and rhythm guitarist, Luma Lago’o, the keyboardist and backup vocalist, Jade Portillo, the lead guitarist, Dailiohn Patrick, the drummer, Kiran Cantwell, the bassiest and Phoenix, the other vocalist. The group is actually somewhat of a club, run by Mr. Dudder, who is also the orchestra teacher.

The band normally finds themselves playing music under the genre of metal. Eli Hardy, a Liberty sophomore student, answered, “We usually play a lot of metal.” While they seem to thrive and enjoy metal the most, they also wish to play more genres like Jazz and RnB.
Most of the students in the band didn’t join the band necessarily to get the experience that they have now gotten. Many joined just because they knew how to play an instrument and thought it could be cool. For some, it was even a coincidence. Jade Portillo, a Liberty junior student said, “It’s a funny story, my drummer and I kind of just wandered in while Naomi and Luma were practicing in a cramped room.” The experiences and adventures that they have earned while being in the band with one another is an amazing thing and is something that they will carry with them forever.

Electric Mayhem is a student driven club where you are responsible for your own music and relationships with each other. Mr. Dudder, the facilitator of the band, said, “Each band and student is responsible for their direction.” He wants to help push students to live out their dreams and continue doing what they love in their future.
Many of the bandmates hope to continue in a band and with music once their high school career is over. Finding joy and hope in being in this band has led most to this conclusion. Finding each other in Electric Mayhem has been a blessing and has also allowed them to find themselves!
