School bathrooms are known for being dirty, crowded, & limited. In a big school with over one thousand people, you would think bathrooms would be available, right? Wrong. Most of the time the bathrooms are locked in order to prevent disorder. But is it working or causing more trouble?
Student Dejah Johnson said, “I think it’s kind of idiotic, because I feel like we should be able to use the restroom when we as Liberty students need it. I understand a lot of people don’t use the bathrooms for what it’s for, but the students who actually need to use it should not be affected by the people who abuse it. If I’m in the portables, I shouldn’t have to go all the way to the 800’s bathroom. Teachers tend to get upset at the fact that I take too long but don’t even realize I have to walk farther than I have to.”
Many students relate to this due to a continuous problem of students overpassing their 10 minute pass. Whenever you are in a portable, take notice of the people who leave for the bathroom and come back around 10 minutes later. They usually come back out of breath and upset about the unnecessary long walk just because the 500’s bathroom is closed.
Bathrooms that are usually locked
Of course, there are certain problems that comes with opening all of the bathrooms. Whether we like it or not, there will always be someone not using it for what it’s for. This can include skipping or even smoking. Obviously that is a big problem but is locking the bathrooms really the answer? Students who genuinely need to use the bathroom shouldn’t be punished for the actions of other.
