August 2023 in Las Vegas, NV, teachers protest in front of the Clark County school district building due to a board meeting that resulted in teachers being enraged by unfair pay and contracts. There were a variety of teachers involved with the protests including the art teacher at Liberty High School, Ms. Katarina Henrikson. Ms. Henrikson as a teacher feels that the district has not acknowledged their obligations of what they promised the teachers. She feels that with rent and prices overall rising, teachers can’t live the way they need too. She also states “it would be hard to support a family with the pay checks they get”. Another teacher that voices her opinion is Mrs. Spreitzer, who is a journalism and english teacher. In which she also partakes in the protest. She believes teachers do not get paid enough at all and even for the achievements or accomplishments they have made as a teacher. Lastly, Mr Belknap teaches Econ honors, US government, and AP human geography. He has been part of both protests, the one on our own campus and the one at the Clark County District. Mr. Belknap believes that the protests are important because teachers need better contracts and it would help make working at CCSD schools more comfortable for more teachers.
