Halftime shows and school assembly performances might be what you think of when you hear ‘Liberty Dance Team’, but there is so much more that goes into it. Olivia Breedlove (11) explained, “It’s much more about technique”, “our feet always have to be pointed and we are constantly criticized about it”, when asked about the difference between cheer and dance. Olivia is on the Allstars team here at Liberty, which means she goes to more competitions outside of school and is considered “more advanced” than just the regular dance team. “The dance team gets me more involved with school” and, “introduced me to friends I wouldn’t have otherwise”. So, the next time you see a girl walking around school with a dance team backpack, don’t assume all they do is wear flashy costumes and wave their arms around. They spend hours and hours practicing each week preparing to give the school an exciting new performance.
