The Liberty High cheer team plays a crucial role in providing entertainment and boosting school spirit during football games, assemblies, basketball games, and various other events. Our cheerleaders work hard to give their fellow patriots a performance to watch and enjoy. The varsity and jv cheerleaders do their best to ensure they are bringing school spirit to other students and faculty. Sophomore Erin Jones, one of our three JV captains, shared what it’s like to take on a significant role as a cheerleader and the various responsibilities of a cheer captain.
This will be Erin’s second year on the Liberty cheer team and first year as cheer captain. “Being a captain comes with many responsibilities such as correcting your teammates, being there for them, leading them through practices, creating routines and music”. Erin enjoys being a cheer captain, despite the pressure and stress it can cause at times, Erin’s motivation is the love for the sport and her fellow teammates around her.
“I see myself doing cheer in the future because I love cheer.”
Erin’s role goes beyond assisting her teammates and choreographing routines she also performs as a flyer. When I asked about the toughest aspect of each position, she mentioned that all roles are equally challenging, but tumbling stands out as particularly difficult. “Tumbling and stunting are among my top skills.”
Erin’s dedication and skills show why she is the cheer captain, she is always enthusiastic about participating in cheer. Erin and the rest of our patriot cheerleaders are now working with our little patriots cheerleaders to perform during halftime shows at our school’s football games. Erin’s dedication and spirit make her a true leader on and off the field. She inspires her team and brings unity to the school, proving that cheerleading is all about heart and passion. Be sure to look for her at the next game.
