ACT Gold Rush

The chaos of testing

With the second half of the school year beginning, stress levels can be as high as Mount Everest. Especially for Juniors.

On February 27, 2024, ACT testing will be taking place here at Liberty High School for all current Juniors. With SAT and ACT sounding very much the same, they are in fact completely different. The SAT is not restricted to only Junior’s participation while the ACT is a Nevada state graduation requirement and only free for Juniors to take. On the day of testing  Freshmen, Sophomore, and Seniors will have the school day off. The ACT will be taken on a mandated scantron for all participants.

Due to the ACT being a graduation requirement in Nevada, the test must be taken in order to be eligible for a diploma. Unfortunately, teachers are not allowed to provide their help during the test but don’t worry, enough studying and consistency should pay off!

Besides every student being required to take the ACT in order to graduate, the ACT test scores are also required to be admitted in most colleges in the United States. For students planning to attend a 4-year college, mostly more competitive colleges require a 32-36 score range, while less selective institutions would accept scores close to the national average, 21.

For example, Harvard University requires underclassmen to hold an ACT score of 34-36, while Blue Mountain College in Mississippi requires a score of 18-25. If for any reason a student is unable to take the ACT, they can take the test as a Senior but fees will apply. As a Junior, squeezing in studying time on top of daily school work can be a hassle, but with proper time management, being consistent and persistent can lead to a road of success.
