“A house divided against itself cannot stand.” -Abraham Lincoln
Sudan is located in Northeastern Africa, and is bordered by Egypt to the north. Since April 2023, Sudan has been going through a civil war crisis, specifically between the SAF, the Sudanese Armed Forces, and the RSF, the Rapid Support Forces. They are going through something known as a power struggle, meaning both forces are trying to gain a specific amount of land or area. Since then, Sudan civilians have been going through catastrophe. Food is scarce, 12 million citizens are forced

to leave their homes, women and children, specifically young women, are being abused, trafficked, and exploited. It is also rumored that the RSF has committed genocide. This situation is heavily underfunded because of restricted access to conflict zones. This humanitarian crisis is occurring all because of the desire for gold. Sudan civilians are indefinitely being affected by these events.
But how is it affecting students here at Liberty High School? “I feel like it affects me mentally because those are human beings that are dying, and being tortured and there is nothing they can do about it because the world is hiding this massacre.” Gavin shouted. Leon exclaimed, “More so mentally, just thinking about how a lot of those people are in stage 5 famine, and have had zero to little food.” Satellite images have shown this bloody massacre and its landscape. These images can affect many people, especially people from Sudan. Peigon says, “It makes me feel horrible, I feel intense dread inside, it’s a horrible thing to see.” That is how horrific these events are. Now what do the USA think about these actions? Currently, the USA is condemning these actions. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has immediately called for action to cut off weapon supply to the RSF. This is definitely a way of aiding Sudan, as they do desire it. “Our country helps many other countries in wars as well, which seems unpopular to some people, but stopping a genocide in Sudan would be amazing.” Another word to describe this crisis is “greedy.” This whole situation is caused by something called a power struggle, meaning 2 sides are trying to obtain a certain piece of land, while fighting off each other. In this situation, specifically gold. The RSF desires for more gold because gold is highly valuable in Sudan, and it’s their most significant source of income. They also want to build an economic empire and to fund their war efforts against the SAF. Gavin shouted that, “Because us as humans, we are all very greedy no matter what, were born greedy, and we always want someone in our life.” Justin also shouted that, “A lot of people are just selfish.” The USA don’t know how these harsh conditions will last, or when they will conclude, but as civilians used to war and famine, please spread awareness regarding the RSF’s actions. Please pray and continuously hope for the Sudanese civilians, and let’s hope that these regretful times end. A few Liberty High School students shouted a message for the people of Sudan:

Leon Davis: “Free Sudan, you guys are very strong and prosperous, and you guys have a bright future ahead of you, so stay strong, and free Sudan.”
Gavin: “Hope.”
Pigeon: “I hope you guys make it out of this, and I hope that they (RSF) will be taken care off and gain nothing from it.”
Justin: “Just keep fighting out there.”
Stay tuned in for more updates on this humanitarian crisis, and let’s all spread a light in this wavering world.
