On August 8th, 2025, the long-awaited “It’s Never Over” Jeff Buckley documentary was released to theaters. Directed by Amy Burg, the documentary contained behind-the-scenes footage and personal accounts following the renowned musician before his passing in 1997.

This documentary was highly anticipated amongst Jeff Buckley and music lovers alike. Senior Josiah Zavala stated that she “heard it [was] really good overall.”
However, some worry that the movie will not properly depict the artist’s life, “Hearing about that kinda makes me nervous because he has a very interesting story and I’m interested to see how they are going to portray him, especially with big actors who don’t really know much about the artist themselves,” Maya Inzunza, a senior at Liberty exclaimed.
Movies surrounding celebrities’ lives have been a main focus in the film industry, as of late, which begs the question: Did It’s Never Over fall to the same fate?

Given the film’s documentary style techniques and various interviews, it implies a sense of honesty not seen in celebrity movies. Milaniya Davis, a Senior and Jeff Buckley fan, remarked that she hoped, “they would not do too much or exaggerate it.”
Many Liberty students hope to see the features of songs on Buckley’s Grace Album. The most popular of which include “Everybody Here Wants You” and “Lover You Should’ve Come Over.”

Overall, the documentary seems to be a more accurate portrayal of the musician and gives fans the chance to experience the process of the production of some of their favorite songs. This sets a new standard for future celebrity films and creative media.
