With the start of the 2025-2026 school year, Liberty teachers and students are coming up with the goals they want to achieve this year. Whether it’s getting good grades or being more involved in school activities for students or getting healthier or leading their students to success for teachers, everyone has a variety of goals they want to reach to be successful this year.

As school starts back up again, most students come back aiming for good grades or just “to do better than last year” like sophomore Kaylee Vergara said. Regardless if their previous year was good or bad, students tend to want to surpass their last year achievements. Another student, a freshman named Terrence Castaneda said his goals “for this year, trying new stuff like doing more volleyball, I tried out for marching band, and I made it into a wind ensemble.” For other students, they want to be more involved in school activities such as sports, the performing arts, or clubs.

Teachers have many different new or recurring personal and professional goals they want to reach, one example is Ms. Jetter, a Chemistry teacher here at Liberty said, “a recurring goal I have this year is cooking regularly, making sure I’m cooking, preparing meals, and not eating out.” A common goal for people whether it is the start of new year or school term is improving their health and using their money more wisely. For teachers, they have goals they want their students to achieve, the main and obvious one is success and doing good in their class. But for students to succeed, teachers need to provide help in many ways. Mrs. Bukaty, an English and AP Seminar teacher said, “doing what I do, helping kids individually when I can, and as a class when I can’t. Improve their reading, writing, speaking, and listening” is her way to lead her students to success.

Overall, back to school sparks the
creation of new goals for teachers and students in hopes of being successful this year.
