Former Dallas Mavericks star was shockingly traded to the Los Angeles Lakers on February 2, 2025. Everyone around the NBA world thought that Luka was untouchable and would remain a Maverick for the rest of his career. Prior to the trade, Luka was uninformed about the trade talks and it had come to a surprise after the news broke out that he was traded. Before he was traded was not performing at his best and the Mavericks believed that if they shipped him off to LA that they would thrive without him.

Everyone talks about what the Mavericks lost but how about what they gained? The Mavericks also got star Anthony Davis in return for shipping Luka to the Lakers. We interviewed a few students around Liberty and found out how they felt about the trade. Joseph Parker said: “The Mavericks are in win-now mode and they believe that they can go all the way without Luka Doncic”. Zili Harris said:  “I think the Lakers won the trade because Luka is a whole six years younger than Anthony Davis giving us more time and more of a possibility to win a championship”. Kevin C. said:  “The Lakers totally won the trade for the future but the Mavs won the trade for the present because now they have the pieces to win a championship this year.”
