After many years of Tik Tok being a dominating social media platform, threatening its competition, it is now at risk of being permanently banned within the United states of America. Currently, people all across the country are growing worried, with a temporary one day ban on January eighteenth, many think there is no hope for the app even after the extension made by president Trump.

As the chinese company Byte dance (who holds ownership on Tiktok) is under extreme fire for alleged security leaks, it has been discussed in order to aid this issue, Tiktok will need to be under American ownership in some way. However, this has become difficult to decide for the reason that Byte dance does not want to sell ownership or hold its data on American soil. Additionally, besides the worry for security leaks, many have shared that tik tok has ruined normacy within teenagers. Some teens have even shared that tik tok destroyed their attention span and they are “so used to just constantly scrolling that if I were to sit down and watch a Youtube video it wouldn’t feel good” (Cameron Desembly, Freshman). This highly discussed topic is very divided within America, with mostly adults favoring the ban and vise versa. But, a downside of this ban is that the likelihood of small businesses being negatively affected is to be expected. Some fear that the ban may cause these businesses to become “ruined and go bankrupt” (Jayden morales, Junior).

Overall, from prosperity for teens’ health to the potential downfall of small businesses, this potential ban has a lot of drawbacks as well as advantages. However, the probability of this ban has been circulating for numerous years now. It is highly likely that this popular app will go under because of disagreements between US congress and Bytedance to sell ownership of tiktok.
