Here at Liberty High school, FCA aka Fellowship of Christian Athletes, is a welcoming club not only for Christian athletes but also for non-Christians and non-athletes! This club is meant to help students who are in need of finding who they are and the meaning of Christianity.

The FCA club is ran by fellow Coach Riley, also known as Liberty’s basketball coach. He states that FCA was an organization that started in the early 1940s. Usually students participate in clubs before and after school which often leaves some student athletes out since they have practices before and after school, but what’s special about FCA is that it allows students to participate on their own platforms and at lunch as well.
Although, you don’t have to be a Christain or an athlete to participate in FCA, students get encouraged to join FCA due to seeing students throughout cross-cultured sports such as soccer, football, baseball, etc. participating and sharing their faith. Coach Riley states that students sharing their faith is important because it encourages others to join the club and to emphasize that it’s a safe space.
“FCA being a club at our school is totally a blessing, to be at a public school with the ability to share about God, Jesus, the bible.” states Jorge Hernandez. To get FCA spread more around, Jorge believes everyone should be a bringer. Friends need to invite more friends and keep the train going. FCA is very welcoming, encouraging, and uplifting which could increase students’ beliefs! What’s special about this club is you’re surrounded with other cultures and backgrounds but gathered up together for one purpose, Jesus.

According to Jayden Riley, also the son of Coach Riley, being a Chistian athlete means you have something to represent and play for. This is important to have when you have bad performances and in need of something or someone to lean on and for him that’s Jesus. Riley states that he spreads Christianity in sports by just the way he presents himself, treats his team and the refs with kindness, and wears a cross while playing.
