Did you know that there’s a club at school that’s judgment-free, where acceptance is the norm, and where everyone’s voice is heard? It’s called the GSA club! What is GSA? It stands for Gay Straight Alliance. It’s a safe space for LGBTQ+ students. Mrs. Forehand is in charge of the club, which is held in room 230 on Mondays after school.
GSA is an important part of our school because it allows students to have a reassuring space within our community. GSA affects their students in that they can express themselves freely and feel accepted for who they are. Some of the activities that the members partake in are arts and crafts, socializing, guest speakers, field trips, and many more.
Did you know that having a GSA club in any school brings down suicide rates by more than 50%? It lets students know that they have a place to belong.
Arabella R. (Senior) says, “I wanted a community to be a part of, I met most of my friends there.” I can tell that this community is a nice, heart-warming place, it lives up to their expectations of being a wholesome community. It helps students learn more about LGBTQ+. Arabella also states,”I felt safe, welcomed, and accepted.”
