The issue with the traffic at Liberty is very prevalent these first couple weeks. With how long it takes to leave the parking lot for pedestrian safety, there’s a few issues that affect us in one way or
another.
Time is our most valuable asset, so why spend it in a line to get in and out of school everyday? A poll we took showed that the average amount of time it takes to get in and out of the parking lot is 15.2 minutes. This isn’t just affecting what time you’re getting to school, but the time you need to be awake to get ready for the day to leave at an appropriate time. “I wake up like 30 minutes earlier to avoid getting stuck in traffic, but still end up getting caught in it and it causes me to miss the first 10 minutes of class.” (Ailine Lolesio) And many other Patriots feel the same way.
“I feel like if you’re in a car you have the same chance of getting hurt as a student who’s walking home” said by Atony-Marie Grance, this is one of the many mixed emotions students at Liberty feel whenever coming to and from school. Although there weren’t any mixed emotions of pedestrian safety, with every interviewee agreeing that there should be extra measures in place to secure the safety for all parties involved.” – Liberty Student
One suggestion by Keira Sumida is that there should be crossing guards to keep everything organized and to make sure there’s not any mistiming from drivers. Jazlyn Guterriez said that the installment of a streetlight could help with a fast way to get everyone to point A to point B as efficiently as possible.
Another poll was taken to see what the Liberty students think their safety is on a 1/10 scale 1(most safe) 10 (least safe) with the results being a 6.8. Heaven Favis said that the drivers are to blame for the poor safety, with illegal turns and no signals, there’s nothing to do or hold anyone accountable for making the already sketchy turns into more dangerous situations.
Is there anything that can be done to counteract the traffic and also ensure pedestrian safety?
Be careful and always look both ways!
