Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the latest installment in the mainline Animal Crossing series to come out. With its North American release being March 20th. Longtime fans of the series have been awaiting this game for a very long time now, having been eight years since the last mainline series release and two years since its first mention in a 2018 Nintendo Direct.
The game being a Nintendo exclusive will be only playable on Nintendo Switches and Nintendo Switch Lites.
Accompanying its release is a Switch with an Animal Crossing inspired design. The joycons provided will be pastel blue and green. While the charging dock will be a light shade of yellow with a cute graphic of the popular twins of the series, the Nook brothers, aboard a ship. Upon closer inspection, the back of the switch itself has a subtle pattern running along it of a bunch of Animal Crossing motifs.
The game and its accompanying system have sold extremely well. Selling out at large chain stores like Target, Walmart, and Gamestop etc. repeatedly. Stores have been struggling to meet pre-order demands for them. The little pre-order bonuses have been a huge plus, as well. In North America, Gamestop provides a huge poster of many popular characters as a bonus. While Target – before selling out – gave out an Animal Crossing: New Horizons planner/journal alongside buying the game as a freebie.
