Gypsy Rose is Now Free After Abuse & Prison

Gypsy Rose Blanchard was released 28th of December and now she’s free.

The thirty-two year old from Louisiana in 2016 was sentenced to 10 years of prison for the murder of her mother Dee-dee. Dee-dee mentally abused her for her whole childhood, making her believe that she was seriously sick and forcing her to undergo unnecessary treatments.

Her mother was affected by the Munchausen syndrome, a mental disorder where a person believes that someone dear to them is in danger. Gypsy’s mom used this to rope in sympathy and luxurious gifts. She made Gypsy believe that she had muscular dystrophy, leukemia, mental retardation and many other illnesses’.

Now Gypsy is married to Ryan Anderson, a middle school teacher. In 2020 he wrote a letter to Gypsy and then they started exchanging emails. They didn’t meet in person until July 2021 because of Covid-19. They obtained a marriage license and in July 2022 they got married in prison.

Liberty students were questioned about the Gypsy Rose Blanchard case. A Freshman stated she’s known about Gypsy Rose since the show “The Act”, a story of Gypsy Rose’s life, came out on Hulu.

Students expressed sympathy towards the incident, although a Liberty Patriot said  “she should have gotten a little bit longer than 8 years”, when questioned about Gypsy Rose’s sentence. Julianna Lapping talks about Nicholas Godejohn, Gypsy’s ex boyfriend, saying “he didn’t have to listen to her, he could have backed down but he killed her. He killed someone”.

Multiple students agreed with a Freshman, Lexa’s, statement, “I think Dee Dee is psychotic and needed to be enrolled in a mental institution along with more time in prison.”

“She [Gypsy] should have gotten a little bit longer than 8 years.”

In 2015, Gypsy met Nicholas Godeyjhon on Facebook. Gypsy convinced Nicholas to help her murder her mother for the two of them to live together peacefully.  On July 14th they committed the murder and they ran away with $4,000.

They were arrested because the police saw a post on Dee-dee’s facebook that  said “That ____ is dead”.  Nicholas, who suffers from schizophrenia and autism, was sentenced to life imprisonment and Gypsy stayed in prison for eight years.

When she left prison there was a whole crowd waiting for her. She was asked to open a tik tok profile which reached 9 million followers in a few days. The video collected comments in her favor and support.

On January 9th she published a new e-book “Released: Conversations on the Eve of Freedom”, in which she tells the truth about her life, her story was told by others in the media, from the news and from TV series’ like “The Act”. In the book, which is already a bestseller, there are some of Gypsy’s interviews during her time in prison, including personal photos and a lot of memories.
