Ghost of Yotei Overview

Ghost of Yotei is Playstation’s latest hit in its lineup of exclusives. The exclusive was released October 2, 2025 and is still very popular a month later. Ghost of Yotei has sold 3.3 million copies in its first month. The game is praised for its uniqueness, style of play, and its variety of weapons. The 6 new weapons in the game are the Dual Katana, Odachi, Yari, the classic Katana, the Kursarigama, the Tanegashima matchlock pistol, and the Tanzutsu matchlock pistol. Fans of Ghost of Yotei love the variety of weapons, which can give the player more freedom in the weapons they use. “I think Playstation provided more weapons because it gives the players more to do and makes them less bored as they prorgress throughout the game, even after the story.” 11th grader Roman exclaimed! But how is the story? Fans of the last game, Ghost of Tsushima, praised it for how complex and deep the story was. Ghost of Yotei takes place 300 years after Ghost of Tsushima, which covered the actual Mongol invasions in 1274, and took place in the Yuan Dynasty period. Ghost of Yotei takes place in the beginning of the Edo period, and follows Atsu, a vengeful mercenary hunting down the main antagonist and gang of outlaws, the Yotei Six, after the outlaws brutally murdered her family. Atsu, the main character, is driven by her desire to get revenge on the Yotei Six, or as she says in the game, “I only want to bring my family peace.” Kavali, an 11th grader, exclaimed, “I think the whole group had cool designs and good fights and I think the main antagonist was well written and cool, my favorite member was probably The Kitsune because of the design and also his part of the game is probably my favorite part.” The Kitsune is one of the members of the vicious Yotei Six. The sly fox hides in the snowy parts of Teshio Ridge, a main destination in the game. Later in the game, it is revealed that we actually met the Kitsune as an ally. The Kitsune’s real name is Oyuki, and was present when the Yotei Six murdered Atsu’s family. She is forgiven by Atsu later, and they team up. Since Oyuki gave up her role as the Kitsune, a man named Dojun takes her place. Speaking of a member of the Yotei Six, the remaining members are even more menacing. The Oni, the flame-driven member, sits atop a throne in Ishikari Plain. The Snake is a venomous mercenary that dies by Atsu’s katana in the beginning of the game. He was described as the goofy, yet powerful character in the game. The Dragon and The Spider are surprisingly brothers in the game, and their father is none other than the last member and the dreadful mastermind behind it all, Lord Saito. In the end of the game, Atsu defeats Lord Saito and is the onryo no more. As the game concludes, Atsu forges a new path for herself, seeking no more revenge. Kavali Parker exclaims the game is an, “8.8/10.” Ghost of Yotei will be remembered by fans, and maybe in the far future, Sucker Punch will make a Ghost of Shibuya? Who knows what they might stir up next. But one thing is for certain: The onryo lives on.
