Although learning about financial literacy may seem boring, the LHS Financial Literacy club (FLC) makes learning about finances a fun and educational activity for all who join. FLC is about teaching youth about various financial topics which can be applied to their future. FLC meets the second Tuesday of every month after school in room 328.

Sophomore and President/Social Media Manager of the club, Eliana Abramson, said they make the club fun by, “not just giving them the lesson but having them do hands-on activities regarding finance so we usually do like charades and then we ask them questions and have them respond to us and they’re motivated to answer questions because we give them candy.” Not only is FLC educating members but it’s also allowing them to connect with others and do activities that will allow them to remember what they were taught.

Nallely Velasquez, sophomore and historian of FLC, says that others should join the club, “first of all, for the environment because it’s really fun there and second of all to learn something useful at the same time.” The benefits of being in this club are, “not only do we financially educate you so that you can apply those skills afterwards, after high school like in college and when you have a job and you’re living life, but it’s also a fun community. Everybody in there, we’re all friends and we all love each other so you have a safe space to go to” which was said by Eliana Abramson. With the activities they do, the members are able to bond and connect with one another while learning something beneficial to their future. Being involved in this club is also a perfect way to meet new people and make new friends.

Nallely Velasquez says that the board’s goals for the club are, “to hopefully grow this club into something more popular instead of it being something kind of niche at this school.” The board members of financial literacy club are hoping to gain more members and have more involvement in this club so the impact of the club is beneficial to as many people as possible.
