Phone Use In School

Phone use in school has always been a big debate. Some teachers think its best that students dont use phones during school, while some students think its necessary to have your phone in school. There are many different opinions on the matter. Should phones be allowed in school or should phones be permanently banned.

There are many risks to not being able to use cell phones in school. In case of an emergency itd be hard to contact anyone. Which could cause a problem for your families due to them not being to know whether youre okay or not in case of an emergency. Some other risks would be causing the students to feel anxious and stressed. Phones provide a sense of security as it has become a part of their everyday routine to check notifications, scroll through social media, etc. And taking that away can lead to them feeling anxious.

However, there are also some benefits to not being able to use phones. Such as fewer distractions, better learning environments, improved social skills/interaction, and less cheating. Students often use their phones to cheat on tests and help find the answers to most of their work. Which as a result causes them to not know the materials and are causing them to not really learn anything. Students social skills have also severely become affected. Most students dont know how to have normal social interactions due to them hiding behind their phones all the time.

Some schools have tried to find a middle ground by allowing limited phone use. For example, students might be allowed to use their phones during lunch, breaks, or when the teacher gives them the go ahead to use their phones. This helps students stay connected while also keeping the classroom focused. Finding a balance might be the best solution so students can learn responsibly while still having access to their phones when needed.
