Did you know that the Liberty High School counselors are the ones who pick the lunch schedules for students? How would you feel if you had the option to choose your lunch for the year? Some students like Presley Crowder, Brielle Ferns, and Piper agree yes, students should have that opportunity. While on the other hand, a student like Devonna Washington, counselor Mr. Pac, and Assistant Principal Mr. Jones, all say no and don’t agree with the idea.
A strong opinion held by Devonna states, ¨you guys shouldnt be picking your lunch schedule because yall wanna be with your friends, boyfriends, girlfriends, but no. Yall need to have a better education…Yall so worried about your friends and drama you’re not getting any real education.¨ She makes an important statement about education being a role in this which truly does have a big effect with students throughout their school day.

Assistant Principal, Mr. Jones also has a strong hold on why he says no. ¨In a perfect world, yes, but with classes and the complexity of scheduling classes, it would probably never work out that way. You’d have a super unbalanced class load for a lot of different teachers and you would have potentially one lunch that’s much larger than the other and that would make big issues with supervision.¨ Mr Jones points out the factor of lunch being unbalanced and the way it causes problems with being able to watch everyone. There are many kids at both lunches each day and the cause of students choosing could genuinely affect the safety of other students and staff. Having too many teenagers in one place at one time may not have the best impact according to Mr.Jones.

Now even though the answer no may seem reasonable, Sophomore student, Piper, tells ¨Yes, because this is a student’s only time to relax. Some don’t have friends in that certain lunch either. They should be able to chill and take a break from their classes. Though right now i’m okay with the counselors doing it because I get to make new friends.¨
Both sides could have pros and cons of students being able to choose their own schedules but the effects it could cause on the school itself and the staff sounds much harder then what we have now.
