If you’re a gamer, you’ve probably heard the news. OG Fortnite is back. The original map, the original gameplay, it’s all back.
OG Fortnite’s return, the nostalgia, reliving the good ol days, it’s an amazing thing to feel, to finally experience what you once had that was so fun, even if you are a new player that has just started playing a few weeks ago. Being able to see the game’s previous state and what people were so hype about back in the day, could be a refresher, or could make a change in thought for some people.

With OG Fortnite’s return, we’re still seeing many newly introduced features, but also a renewed focus on what we once had, and time period to enjoy that. It’s something we should all be excited about.
We spoke with a few students to get their thoughts on OG Fortnite’s return, and what kind of effect it will have on the game and it’s playerbase. Dawson, a long-time fortnite fan, thinks OG Fortnite is necessary. “Yes,” he says simply. Michael agrees. “Very much so,” he says. But not everyone is convinced. Tayjon thinks OG Fortnite is unnecessary. “No,” he says.
So will players return for OG Fortnite? Michael seems to think so. Dawson is a little more cautious. “Honestly, yeah I think so,” he expresses. Tayjon on the other hand, is still skeptical about it, saying “No.”
OG Youtubers returning is also a big thing to talk about, considering their impact on the playerbase we have today, and how they really shaped the platform. Dawson thinks a few might return. “I think a couple,” he says. Michael is a bit unsure about it, “Maybe, I don’t know,” he says as he expresses his uncertainty. Although, Tayjon is more certain that none will return. “Hecks no,” he says.
Fortnite’s popularity has been a topic of debate for quite some time, but it seems to be that most students agree that it has grown since the OG seasons. Dawson and the others put it simply, “I think it’s grown.”
But what about the introduction of new mechanics and items? Have they improved or worsened since the OG season? The game has certainly had it’s improvements, whether it be in quality, or just the gameplay in general. Dawson relays his thoughts to us, “I like the sprinting mechanic, I just wish it had more time to it and to recharge faster, otherwise I think it’s better overall.” Michael thinks the new mechanics and items have improved the game. “I think the improved movement is better, and the guns are kinda better,” he says.
Tayjon has a more mixed opinion, “It’s 50/50. Some things are good, some things are bad.” Various opinions on OG Fortnite’s return are mixed, but one thing is clear, OG Fortnite is back, and people are ready to experience those nostalgic or even recreate them again.
So, if you’re a gamer, don’t just dismiss OG Fortnite as a nostalgic relic. Don’t just see it as a game that has been re-released. Take it for what it is, a moment and a chance to experience what this game once was.
