In the world of boxing, there’s been a lot of talk about a fight between Jake Paul, the YouTuber-turned-boxer, and Mike Tyson, one of the greatest boxers ever. There are many controversial thoughts surrounding the octagon but here is what our very own Liberty students have to say about it.  

Jake Paul became famous on YouTube and Disney Channel. Eighty-four percent of Liberty students were rooting for Tyson and could agree that “Jake needs to stay on Bizaardvark”(Maia Greer 11). In 2018, he started boxing. He’s fought other YouTubers and even a former NBA player, Nate Robinson, who he knocked out cold. Jake has been training hard, but most of his opponents have had no real boxing experience. Many people feel that watching the fight was like “watching elderly abuse”(Alexandria Walker 10).

Mike Tyson is a boxing legend. He became the youngest heavyweight champion ever at 20 years old and was known for his knockout power. Tyson hasn’t fought professionally in years. But despite his fame, name, and reputation, sixteen percent of students attending Liberty High School were in favor of Jake Paul, “he used to be my Disney Channel crush I knew he would win” (Abigail Church 11).

Many opinions swirl around this fight. Although it might have been “scripted”, “elderly abuse” and unrealistic, we can all agree the undercard fights were much more intriguing.
